East Atlanta Hardscaping & Patio
Southern Outdoor Design transformed an Atlanta couple’s formerly un-landscaped backyard from a sloping, eroded backyard with lots of unused space into a large turfed recreation area complete with entertaining patios and fire pit.

Site Preparation
Grading
Leveled out yard to help with the flow of water towards the back fence line to prepare the site for perimeter fencing
Overgrowth
Clearing and removal of overgrowth, debris and dead trees
Drainage Modification
French drain installation from the upper yard to the fenceline at the firepit area
The French drain combined with the grading prevented any type of accumulation on the new synthetic turf
Additional custom drainage was run to make sure all the new hardscaping wasn’t affected by runoff
Construction
Staircase
Built custom Trex composite staircase and 4’x4’ landing leading from the pool deck to the new pergola patio
Hardscaping
Pergola Patio
Large open pave stone patio set up for future entertaining and shade structure
Pathways
Created flagstone path access leading to both the firepit area and the new open patio area for entertaining
Fire Pit Patio
Installed a built-in firepit on a large, circular pavestone gathering area which was softscaped with a backdrop of evergreen trees
Lighting
Installed a series of path lights and uplighting to provide warmth throughout the back of the property. Cafe lights were also strung across the firepit area which beautifully illuminated the surrounding evergreen trees
Synthetic Turf
Coordinated with local turf installer to match design specs and install according to master plan layout
Plants
Designed a planting layout with fragrant shrubs, flowers and evergreens throughout the property
Personalized Flowers
Master planned beautiful colors coming from maples, azaleas, camellias and vibrant sunshine anise
The Results: Mission Accomplished
This garden is now a dream backyard for the whole family!
